The MGH Burn Research Center investigators are involved in basic
science investigations as well as clinical studies and practice.
The Center investigators include a mix of scientists from different
backgrounds and disciplines who offer crucial expertise and technology
and a depth of understanding in addressing the various issues related
to injury. More importantly, each investigator has collaborated
for years with the other investigators in the Center and enjoys
the benefits of the advice and support of other like-minded investigators.
In vitro, in
vivo and model systems studies are performed in well-established
laboratories and clinical units at the Massachusetts General Hospital,
Shriners Hospital for Children and the Massachusetts Institute of
Technology.
This coupling of human studies with studies of model systems provides
the Center with important information not otherwise collectable,
while at the same time confirms the clinical relevance of the model
systems to recapitulate the hypermetabolic response in patients
with burn injury.
